 What's Been Said...

Jonny's innate sense of composition and mature understanding of melody touches my soul. I am proud to have been a mentor, a big sista, and a friend to this wonderful spirit and his family...

This charming young man is an OLD soul, you sense it the minute you hear the first note. Jonny's pensive and mature music is full of emotion and experience that baffle us, especially when we learn that this composer is only 17/18 year old! I can't wait to see where this young man's journey takes him.

I see myself sitting in an audience, tears rolling down my face as I watching him win his place in this wondrous and complex world called the music business! Whatever happens little brother- follow your heart! "Quyanaa" (Thanks!) for your gift of song...

Mary Youngblood - Multi-Award Winning Native American Flute Artist (Aug 10, 2007)

I received your package today and I must tell you that I am enjoying your music very much. We will be adding "Transitions" to our Native Stream 6 this weekend and will certainly have you in "heavy rotation". We love the variety of flutes and songs, and the extra interest added by the other instruments you play - what talent! This is an outstanding CD and should be heard (and purchased) by anyone looking to hear the "true virtouso" of the flute. Most will find it hard to believe that one so young could have mastered the flute so perfectly! Mary was correct when she referred to you as an "Old Soul", it proves that everything in life is a circle. You've come back my friend! Please always send me you music as you have an open invitation to have your music played on NativeRadio.com.

Listening to this CD, it's difficult to imagine that the composer and artist, Jonny Lipford, has only just turned 18. His compositions suggest an individual of far greater years of musical experience and life travels. He truly has an old soul.

His sounds range from joyful to soulful. His melodies are dressed with a variety of well-executed embellishments; his movements and transitions are as smooth as the glassy surface of a lovely lake on a warm, still day. Varied rhythms blend with keyboard and flute creating beautiful soundscapes that invite the listener to travel to places in their own hearts. All instruments are performed by Mr. Lipford.

Both his songs and their titles make this listener want to sit down with him over a cup of coffee and hear his heart and understand the movement of his soul within the pieces, and in return, share where they have taken me. I most highly recommend this CD. You'll want extras for gifts!

Deborah Peterson - The Alaska Flute Circle (Aug 14, 2007)

The CD offers 12 original songs, each composed by the artist, who not only plays the flutes on each, but performs all the background keyboard music as well. The songs range in style and versatility from the softly elegant introspection of "No Ordinary Love" through the bluesy "Blue Rocks" and the jazzy "Prairie Dawg".

The music in this CD is not "faux" Indian. Jonny has taken the Native American flute into his heart and used it to express his own Journey. Although you will hear the influence of his beloved friend and mentor Mary Youngblood in the richness and skill of embellishments, each offering here is a unique and thoughtful expression of Jonny, himself.

This is Jonny Lipford's debut album. The artist may be young, "only" 18, but his music demonstrates a maturity in both heart and musical technique that will astonish you. We know there'll be more - he's already working on songs for the next one.
